Bandersnatch Group, Inc, the legal entity for Robert Jordan and his estate has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in late February to protect the use of the Wheel of Time logo in the electronic and online games space.

The mark was filed under classes IC 009 and IC 041, which represent goods and services of  “Downloadable electronic games via the internet and wireless devices” and “Entertainment services, namely, providing online electronic games” respectively.

The filing is for “intent to use” or ITU as opposed to in-use, which means this is either for electronic games in development or yet-to-be-developed. It is not uncommon that eventualities such a spinning up video games for a popular TV series be protected from a trademark standpoint. It is only prudent to go after such protections if you know a certain product or service will be introduced in due time.

The application was filed on February 27th, 2020. The next step is for the application to be reviewed by a USPTO examiner. Upon approval, it will be published for opposition. If no comment is entered in opposition, then the mark is officially registered.
