The road leading to The Wheel of Time trailer has been long. The telling of this story with its many turnings has been in the making for 30 years. We began our journey covering the threads weaving the television series. We start with A Beginning in 2016:
A Beginning
April 28th, 2016: Show Announced by Harriet McDougal. Here’s the very first post on this website from April 29th with Harriet’s update.
April 20th, 2017: Sony Pictures Television announced as production company with Rafe Judkins as show-runner.
October 2nd, 2018: Amazon announced to have ordered the series and set to serve as production company
February 19th, 2019: Uta Briesewitz announced as director
June 19th, 2019: Rosamund Pike to play Moiraine Damodred. First casting announcement
August 14th, 2019: The casting for the Emond’s Field Five (EF5) is announced:
Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al’vere. Zoe Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara. Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor. Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara. Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon
September 4th, 2019: Casting announcement: Daniel Henney to play Lan Mandragoran
Season 1 Starts Filming
September 16th, 2019: First day of principal photography
October 2nd, 2019: Amazon released 55-second promotional video of the first table read
November 6th, 2019: Casting announcement: Michael McElhatton to play Tam al’Thor
December 4th, 2019: Casting announcement: Alvaro Morte to play Logain Ablar. Johann Meyer to play Padan Fain. Hammad Animashaun to play Loial. Alexandre Willaume to play Thom Merrilin
December 23rd, 2019: Alanna Mosvani and Warders Ihvon and Maksim announced, played by Priyanka Bose, Emmanuel Imani and Taylor Napier
January 15th, 2020: First official set photo, posted by Rafe Judkins
January 22nd, 2020: Multiple cast members and roles revealed: Jennifer Cheon Garcia as Leane Sharif, Kate Fleetwood as Liandrin, Peter Franzen as Warder (Stepin), Daryl McCormack in unkown role and Maria Doyle Kennedy in Unknown role. Most photos of the reveal came from the table read for episodes 5 and 6 of season 1. We later found out that Daryl play Aram and Maria plays Ila.

Filming Season 1 Resumes
September 7th, 2020: Filming resumes after a 5-month hiatus
September 9th, 2020: The show’s official social media account releases the first of many teasers, this one showing a Winespring Inn.
October 29th, 2020: In this sound teaser, we get to hear Egwene and Perrin dialog.
Filming Halts (Again)
November 2nd, 2020: Wotseries.com reported exclusively that the Wheel of Time production has once again halted in the Czech Republic due to COVID.
December 1st, 2020: The show films Logain scenes in Segovia, Spain over a two-day period.
December 2nd, 2020: First look at a heron-marked blade.
December 23rd, 2020: The show releases a teaser video featuring Thom’s guitar.
January 15th, 2021: On The Eye of the World’s anniversary, the show releases a concept art teaser.
February 17th, 2021: We get our first glimpse of the Dagger in a new teaser.
March 17th, 2021: First official look at Moiraine as she channels in yet another teaser from the show’s social media accounts.
Season 1 Resumes (Again)
April 2021: filming of season 1 resumes.
April 28th, 2021: We get our first look at Lan Mandragoran in this teaser.
May 20th, 2021: Season 1 wraps. The show is renewed for a second season.
June 30th, 2021: The Main Title graphic is released, confirming a 2021 release.
Season 2 Starts Filming
July 19th, 2021: Filming beings on season 2.
July 23, 2021: Official show poster, and November 2021 release announced during Comic Con 2021.
August 18th, 2021: in an Entertainment Weekly exclusive, we get a first look at the main cast in costume.
September 1st, 2021: Rosamund Pike announces that a teaser trailer will be released on September 2nd, at 8:30 AM Pacific.
