Prime Video has revealed the opening scene of The Wheel of Time Season 3, making it available to viewers through a creative release strategy. The 11-minute sequence has been added to the end of Reacher Season 3’s third episode, which premiered earlier today. It can also be found under the “Extras” section for season 3 of The Wheel of Time within Prime Video.

The scene, which features an intense battle between the Black Ajah and other Tower Aes Sedai, was previously shown at CCXP in Brazil in December of 2024, generating significant buzz among fans. Showrunner Rafe Judkins had called the sequence “absolutely bananas” and went on to describe it as “just a bunch of women in their 40s and 50s shredding each other.”

The opening depicts a violent confrontation where Aes Sedai who have secretly pledged themselves to the Dark One reveal their true allegiance, as they come to the defense of one of their number: Liandrin Guirale, standing trial in the Hall of the Tower, accused of being a Darkfriend. The scene ends on the streets of Tar Valon with a confrontation between Alanna Sedai backed by her Warders, Maksim and Ihvon, against the Black Ajah Sisters looking to escape the city, lead by Liandrin.

This opening scene is worth rewatching for numerous reasons, one of them being the opportunity to take in the multiple new faces introduced to new viewers. Book readers know that there are a lot of named Aes Sedai in the books, and it seems like season 3 of The Wheel of Time on Prime Video is taking the opportunity to introduce some of these many characters to the adaptation. This marketing effort mirrors Prime Video’s approach to Season 2, when they added that season’s opening scene to the final episode of Season 1. The difference is that this time, the show is being attached to an episode of Reacher, instead of an episode from The Wheel of Time, which will help introduce the series to new audiences.

The third season of The Wheel of Time, based on Robert Jordan’s fantasy book series, will premiere on Prime Video on March 13, 2025. All episodes of the first two seasons of The Wheel of Time are now available on Prime Video. The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
