Somewhere in the White Tower, Trakand & al’Meara: Private Investigators prepare to open their doors. Elayne helpfully points out to Verin that full Aes Sedai can’t lie because they have sworn their oaths on the oath rod but THEY have not.

Nynaeve dusts off her Sul’dam act and asks to have Joiya and Amico – the captured Black Ajah who tried to kill Siuan – separated this time for interrogation. They take turns playing each Aes Sedai off each other, trying to get to the truth of where Liandrin went. Is she headed to Saldaea to capture another false dragon or is she on her way to Tear to help a forsaken take the sa’angreal Callandor?

Having been thwarted outside of the Amyrlin’s study, Elaida decides to see who she can sweet talk in the Red Ajah dorm common room, where the spiciest of ajahs has a decidedly less formal vibe. She tries to buy off two of the Sitters, Tsutama and Galina, to get her in with Siuan, but they’re too concerned about rebuilding their reputation after Liandrin’s little show (but Galina *does* love Andoran wild strawberries…)

The only dishonor greater that not defending yourself is to kill someone who is not defending themselves, and this attack smells fishy. Bair, the eldest of the Taardad Wise Ones, suggests that it could be a rival clan called the Shaido…

Over in the Two Rivers we’re treated to a beautiful wide shot of… oh no… apple trees in bloom. Perrin is planting his split wedding ring next to an apple sapling. His family’s burial ritual is to lay loved ones to rest with an apple seed in their hand. Alanna joins him and they share a nice moment about grief. Alanna is from Kandor and the Kandori mix their loved one’s ashes with clay and water and wear them on their face until they fade.

Zooming over to the Whitecloak encampment on Watch Hill, Dain Bornhald has been going through some things. His uniform is filthy, he needs a bath, and he’s drinking like he’s on spring break in Ebou Dar. The mustache-twirling, quail eating Questioner, Eamon Valda, swings by to offer to get information from the Cauthons faster but Bornhald retains a shred of humanity and doesn’t want to harm people who did nothing wrong.

Back in the White Tower, Mat’s past lives-induced insomnia is hard at work when he hears a knock on his door. Min bursts in to get some things off her chest, like telling Mat what she gave up for him. Mat is a bit of a mess and pushes Min away again and she leaves, but he decides to follow her.

In the Brown Ajah quarters, Nynaeve and Elayne are snooping about for hints on what that symbol they found in Aludran’s room is. It turns out it’s a death ritual from Tanchico, a coastal city in Tarabon. Shock of shocks, both Joiya AND Amico were lying to them! They sift through Verin’s other drawings of ter’angreal that were stolen in the raid, but they don’t get far before they are attacked by another gray man! Fortunately, Verin finds our detectives along with a newly deceased assassin, and sends them off to their rooms.

If the third season of Wheel of Time has taught me anything it is that I would totally give up the light for Lanfear.

The Aiel always travel prepared and have set up a “sweat tent” – think Third Age sauna – to get clean while conserving water. We join Moiraine and Lan as they are co-ed naked sweat tenting with the wise ones and others, while being attended by Gai’shain in white. A strange woman is making eyes at both Moiraine and Lan but our girl is relentlessly pumping the Wise Ones for information.

Zooming ahead to Tanchico, we find Liandrin sobbing in the basement of the home she just… repossessed… painting a matching symbol to the one in Tar Valon. This woman has been through some things.

The way the show continues to make me feel more sympathy to Liandrin by showing her painful past… she’s such a rich and complex character and Kate plays her with such depth!

She heads upstairs to talk with Nyomi, who has been studying the ter’angreal that they’ve taken, but they’re not alone…
