Following its BAFTA TV Craft Awards nomination for best Special, Visual & Graphic Effects in Season 2, The Wheel of Time appears poised to continue its VFX excellence in the upcoming third season. The series dramatically upgraded its visual storytelling from Season 1, reimagining channeling weaves and expanding its world with detailed new locations like Cairhien and Falme. First glimpses from the Season 3 teaser trailer suggest that this commitment to visual excellence will persist when the new installment arrives in March 2025.

Key VFX Roles

The visual effects team behind The Wheel of Time’s critically-acclaimed second season has maintained its creative continuity for season 3. VFX Supervisor Andy Scrase, winner of a Visual Effects Society award (The Crown), and nominee for both BAFTA (The Wheel of Time) and Primetime Emmy (The Crown) Awards, returns to lead the creative vision. Joining him are returning VFX Producer Brian Shows and VFX Production Supervisor Julia Markó, ensuring a consistent approach to the show’s visual storytelling.

The Post Office

According to an article in the Art of VFX, this is the in-house VFX team for the show

The Wheel of Time show embraces its magic, and never shied away from displaying it on screen. The substantial upgrade Andy Scrase and his team brought to channeling in season 2 were evident in the season 3 teaser trailer. Another standout was the handling of expansions to locations such as Rhuidean and other sets in the Three-Fold Land. Season 3 presents numerous challenges in terms of visual effects, but also exciting opportunities for the show to excel and stand out—think the Age of Legends, the Glass Columns, Rhuidean, and potentially even Sindhol! If season 2 is any indication of what this show can deliver, fans of both the book series and the TV adaptation will appreciate the visual effects work in season 3.

All episodes of the first two seasons of The Wheel of Time are now available on Prime Video. Season 3 premiers on Prime Video on March 13, 2025.
